I made a folk-pop song about the emotional limbo of one of my situationships.
I fell for someone I shouldn't have. Not unique at all, but true. He was inconsistent — capable of passion but equally capable of withdrawal — and I got caught up in my care for him even though I was never fully chosen.
When writing the song, I chose a central fairytale metaphor to capture that feeling: arriving at his castle and finding the gates half-open. Not a warm welcome, not a refusal. Just ambiguity.
The mood quickly became introspective, bittersweet, but also somewhat empowering — built around piano, guitar, and two-part harmonies, and written with two amazing songwriting friends ♡
Enjoy!
